How old is your Yankee Candle?

I’m not sure about you, but I have a mini arsenal of Yankee Candles scattered about my home. Since I tend to buy en masse, I often forget about when I purchased what candles. I recently ran across a YouTube video (thanks Az4angela!) that explained how to tell the age of my Yankee Candle jars.

I pulled out 3 candles I wanted to know about – Bahama Breeze (medium classic jar), Oceanside (large tumbler), and Shortbread Cookie (large classic jar).

I turned the jars over to look at the labels. The important numbers for this exercise are the digits that run perpendicular to the bar yankee-candle-bahama-breeze-how-oldcode numbers. For example, Bahama Breeze is a candle that I purchased just a few months ago. When I turned it over, the code I saw was 14544861 (see the small print on the side). This candle was poured this year, 2014.

Next I looked at Oceanside. The code I found there was 13469795. This candle jar was poured last year, 2013. Sounds about right!

What about Shortbread Cookie? This was an older scent that was brought back for a limited time and I purchased it a long, long time ago. yankee-candle-shortbread-cookie-how-oldThe digits I see on the side of this jar are 71343. Does this mean that this candle was poured in 2007? It would make sense, as this particular scent was introduced in Fall 2007.

See…easy peasy! How old is the oldest YC jar that you have?

Happy candle burning ~

  1. I learned this id trick too on the Yankee Candle FB Fan page. My oldest candle is from 2000. It is also my very first yankee candle that was given to me as a parting gift from my co-worker. Plumeria.

  3. This is such a great find! I had no idea I could do this. I wonder if this sort of thing is available for other brands?

  4. What do you do if your candle is so old that the number isn’t next to the barcode?

  5. What makes a Yankee Candle get a crystalized coating on the top? Is it old? It doesn’t look like it belongs on the candle.

    • No one answered my question, so I’ll give more info. The Candle with the crystalized coating on the top Is Festive Holiday followed by number 1180805 with no visible date anywhere. The smell is strong. Can anyone date this 5 1/2 inch jar. Just got it as a gift.
