I love this idea I found on CraftBits.com – wax scented hand towels! What a way to spring new life into some towels and a perfect addition for a guest bathroom. This craft project seems relatively easy to do. What’s more, it seems fun! I do think the wording in the instructions are sometimes a little odd, but it all makes sense in context.
Here are the details for the project, as seen on the website:
What you need
Decorative Hand towel or face washer
Heat resistant rubber gloves
Place them on the side of your sink or hanging from the towel holder for a lovely scented look.
In this project we show you how to make the wax dipped hand towels and waxed dipped face washers.
Obviously the smaller the project the easier it will be so starting off with a small face washer is a good way to get started.
Begin by melting your wax. For a 20-30 cm towel you would need around 1lb of wax and 15ml of fragrance oil.
Melt the wax in a double boiler method as if making a candle, take the wax off the heat and allow it to cool slightly before adding the scent and glitter.
Using some metal tongs and some heat resistant rubber gloves carefully dip the towel into the wax and roll it around until it is well covered. Squeeze off any excess wax and then pull it out of the wax. Working quickly use some tongues to roll or fold the towel into a nice finish. Use a fork to tuff at the pile on the towel to separate the fibers and to restore its fluffy appearance. Place it down onto a sheet of wax paper and allow to dry completely. Make sure you place it into the position you want your towel to stay, such as rolled, folded or even hanging.
Place a small coaster or tray under the towels to prevent them from leaving a wax residue on your furniture.
Refresh your towel by adding extra drops of oil to it every few weeks.
