Review Summary:

Rating Breakdown:

  • Packaging/Presentation: This was a small hourglass shaped jar - the shape I generally think about when I think of WoodWick Candles. Although smaller, it still had the same features as the larger jar with attention to detail - the puffy sticky label on the front that bore the company name and logo, the wooden candle lid with the logo on top, the sticker on the bottom that included the scent name. The lid fit snugly on this jar. Although online the picture showed this candle with the old, flat wick, this wick was the newer criss-cross  design. The wax was a pastel green color. 4/5
  • Scent: This scent was an OK one - it smelled like a good honeydew melon scent, but I didn't get the citrus zing that would make this one a bit different. It smelled sweet and juicy. 3/5
  • Scent Throw: The scent throw on this small candle was very minimal. I had it in the smallest room in my house and I could barely tell it was burning when I walked in. I did try moving the candle to other parts of the house to see if that made a difference, but it did not. Even for a small candle, I did not get a good throw. 1/5
  • Performance: This candle started off on a bad note - the wick was just barely above the wax line. I tried several times to light it, but it would not light. (I did not try to trim it beforehand - the candle arrived like this). I eventually had to scoop out a smaller crater around the wick then light. The wick then started to drown, so I had to pour out the small wax melt pool that had formed around the wick. After that shaky start, the candle burned well. It ended up with a full wax melt pool. The crackling sound from this small candle was still very loud. The WoodWicks tend to have large flames, and this one was no different. I did see some black wisps of smoke. I did get approximately 30 hours of burn time from this candle. 3.5/5
  • Customer Service (if applicable): Super fast shipping, no problems with the order. 5/5
  • Overall rating: 3/5 (Technically 3.3 but rounding down for scent throw.)

  1. Andrea I usually adore Wood Wick!! I guess every now and then a dud is to be expected. Sorry this one didn’t smell to good or burn very well.

    • Me, too, Carolyn. I bought several mini jars on sale and some larger jars. Hoping to get better results. That Vanilla Bourbon one I burned not too long ago was fabulous!

  2. I bought this candle in the medium size jar but haven’t burned it yet. Wonder if the medium candle will be better. We’ll see…

  3. Hey Andrea, I know this is an old post but I came upon it while doing some Googling – because my Woodwick candle (Summer Fruit – I suspect it may be an old one, found it at the store I usually buy candles from) is exactly the same – lovely fruity scent (when unlit and sniffed from the jar) and gorgeous cracking sound, but zero throw. Mine was the medium size, yet nothing. In fact, while lit, I could barely smell the actual fragrance even when smelling it up close (and trying not to burn my hair!)

Wondering if anything changed for you with this one since your review? I’m a bit gutted because where I live (NZ), Woodwick is a tad more expensive..
