Review Summary:

This is a great, warm apple cinnamon scent but the candle did not have a great scent throw.

I’m on a Yankee Candle kick and Apple Cider was on my radar. I bought the large housewarmer jar recently and couldn’t wait to burn it. The label shows a couple of cups of hot apple cider with sticks of cinnamon in them. There are a few apples in the background. The wax itself is a pretty deep red and this housewarmer jar has a single wick.

A welcoming aroma of hot cider spiced with cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.

The cold sniff is fantastic! There’s a perfect balance between the sweet apple scent and the spices. Mmmmm….great cold throw! I lit this large jar and left it in my small powder room first to get a feel for the throw. I see incredible reviews for this scent on the YC website, so I must say I was disappointed. I did get a very mild apple cinnamon scent throw from this candle in my smallest room. It smelled fantastic! The throw just wasn’t that great. I eventually moved it to a couple of other rooms in my house hoping for yankee-candle-apple-cider-lit-candledifferent results. I never did get much scent throw from this candle. Yankee Candle has a great return policy, but I didn’t bother with it. I enjoyed the ambiance from this candle anyway and the scent, when I could smell it, was fantastic.

The candle burn was just fine. It took a while to get a full melt pool. These housewarmer jars are fairly slow burning candles, which I do not mind. I usually use my Illuma-Lids for these jars because the flames on these can get out of hand. But I did get a full wax melt pool with only a little bit of a wax rim.

Overall, I’m disappointed with this candle and it won’t be a repurchase for me. I do have a wax tart in this scent and I’m hoping for better results.

Have you tried Apple Cider from Yankee Candle? What are your thoughts?

Happy candle burning ~

  1. I have been disappointed with the scent throws on both Yankee Candles and Yankee tarts lately. An informal poll at my workplace has confirmed my thoughts, as does your post here. As a New Englander, I used to love Yankee Candles and felt the extra cost was worth it. I’m sorry to say, I no longer feel this way, and am on a search for a new candle company that will give me be back that warm, cozy, whole house scent.

    • Melany,
Yankee Candle used to be one of my favorite candles to buy! I’ve noticed a change in performance for me. I’ve been buying a lot of them lately, hoping to be wow’ed yet again. We’ll see.

In the interim, I’m having good luck with B&BW candles. Christina, owner of Candlefind, is having great luck with Village Candle. Perhaps give those a try if you have not. Thanks for your comments!

  2. I must say that I too have experienced very light scent throws on some of the YC tarts. Others however, are so strong I have been cutting the tart in half and on some in quarters because of the strength. Apple Pumpkin is one that isn’t very strong. It’s a nice pleasing scent but won’t give the scent throw we know and love. Autumn Lodge, Harvest, November Rain, Cozy Sweater, These are STRONG! Almost too Strong even at half a tart! I have tried several of there vanilla scents. Vanilla cupcake, buttercream etc. these almost have no throw even at a whole tart. Blueberry muffin has no throw either. All their clean scented ones I find super strength in the throw.

Glade has there Pumpkin Spice, Fall Hayride, Apple Cinnamon wax melts available. I have tried all of the above and find these particular ones STRONG!! and AFFORDABLE! I have even tired Bath & Body Works mini candles to work well in my warmer! Autumn is what I cut in half and removed the wick and little metal ring cut the was in half and have been using it for 3 days in a row and I LOVE IT!!

  3. I just bought this one as a tart. Bummer you didn’t have a great throw. Hope I have better luck with it. I hate it when they smell yummy but won’t throw – feels like such a waste of a great scent!

  4. Carolyn, thanks for listing some scents you think are strong. I’ll have to keep those in mind. For YC apple, I usually go with Macintosh, but will check out the apple cider next time I go in.
